What is the Mutual Market Access Program (Shanghai and Shenzhen Connect)?

Shanghai-Hong Kong / Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect is a securities trading and clearing links programme developed by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited ("HKEx"), Shanghai Stock Exchange ("SSE"), Shenzhen Stock Exchange ("SZSE") and China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited ("ChinaClear").

This new cross-border investment channel will enable investors in Hong Kong and the Mainland China to trade a specified range of listed stocks in each other's market through their respective local securities companies. Hong Kong and foreign investors will be able to trade SSE/SZSE securities through Northbound Trading while Mainland investors will be able to trade SEHK shares through Southbound Trading.

Who can participate in Shanghai and Shenzhen Connect?

Trading of SSE securities (except STAR stocks) under Shanghai Connect is open to all Hong Kong and overseas investors including institutional and individual investors. Trading of STAR stocks is limited to institutional professional investors only.

Trading of SZSE securities (except ChiNext stocks) under Shenzhen Connect is open to all Hong Kong and overseas investors including institutional and individual investors. Trading of ChiNext stocks is limited to institutional professional investors only.

Mainland Chinese investors cannot participate in trading of securities through Northbound Trading under Stock Connect Program.

Do I need to make additional request to trade SSE / SZSE Securities under Shanghai and Shenzhen Connect?

No need to make additional request, setting nor application. All clients are ready to trade SSE / SZSE securities under the Shanghai and Shenzhen Connect (i.e. Northbound trading) with their BOOM account

What can we trade under Shanghai and Shenzhen Connect?

Among the different types of SSE-/SZSE-listed securities, only A shares and ETFs are included in Shanghai and Shenzhen Connect. Other product types such as B shares, bonds, and other securities are not included.
